GASOLINE Midwest USA Empty
PostSubject: GASOLINE Midwest USA   GASOLINE Midwest USA EmptySat Aug 18, 2012 5:35 pm

I'm a tech at a VW dealership in the Chicago Suburbs.
In the past 3 days we've had about 15 cars driven in or towed in with bad gasoline. It seems to mainly be affecting our 2.5L non-direct injected engines. All have had their last fill-up from area BP gas stations. The 5th largest Refinery in the USA is the BP refinery in Whiting, IN. I'm supposing they serve all BP's in the midwest. Other brads such as Clark, Thorntons...etc...etc do not own refineries and may purchase gasoline from BP. Check before you fill.
Id steer clear of BP's and establishments who get gas from BP for a month or so till it gets through the system.
You were warned.

They do that in Wisconsin too... Pure Maple Syrup and Lagered Beer 50/50 with 87 octane.

*Update* Just had 3 more cars come in with the same issue.
Seems to only be affecting 87 octane so far. Not sure about 89. 91 and 93 should be ok. The direct injected engines are more finicky with fuel, but requires premium... and haven't had a problem with them so far.

*NW Indiana fuel from BP and Speedway have been doing the same thing* I don't know if Speedways in other states have contracts with BP.*
Shell, Conoco-Phillips should be ok.
If using BP, Clark, Speedway, Thorntons or any other brand that doesn't have it's own refinery, stick to premium for a month or so.
